Following The Famous North Wales Coastline with the views of Eryri as you head towards the breath taking Llyn Peninsula, the North Wales Coast of Llŷn has a distinctive, unspoilt character that’s all its own. Its sunny southern coast draws walkers,runners and endurance fans from all over the world.
The WAUT - Wales Ultra Trail Route takes you along and around the to incredible viewing points on the way, with mixed terrain making it an event for you to remember.
With competitors travelling from all over the world to take part you’re guaranteed to have a fantastic experience.
The first Pen Llyn Ultras Was the Classic 75 in 2016 and since then the Summer Editions have grown into 3 distances, with the addition of the 50 and 100 in 2018.
We’ve taken on board feedback since then,as well as speaking with other race directors and visiting races in the UK and internationally
What’s new?
Well let’s start with the 50M, for starters we are extending the cut off to 26 hours to complete,this means both runners,mid packers and those looking to walk the route can.
We are also adding a 2 Hour ‘Sleep Zone’ for those walking who want to rest.
The Race will now start from the home of Get Up Coffee in Nefyn and then on the beach in Porthdinllaen next to the iconic Ty Coch pub at 22:00 Friday the 5th of July,night start means that you will be running into day light rather than the other way around which makes sure for a day/evening finish and more of a crowd finish and atmosphere when you cross the finish line in Abererch Sands Holiday Park which is the Race Hub and Ultra Camping Village.
The free competitors shuttle from the Race hub the evening of the race will take you to the start in Nefyn. This means you still have the same time to register and camp.
The course now follows the true and route along the Welsh Coastal path, with no dog legs or long road segments. you’ll visit coves and villages along the welsh coastal path going around the headland of the Llyn Peninsula, before going across Llanbedrog Headland to the trig point to taken in the stunning views before taking the Solomon’s Trail to Llanbedrog beach then along the coast to the finish.
The Classic 75M. We thought do we keep the same route as it was the first and then decided just like committing to training and a race, it’s All In!
Still with the classic feel. No extension of the 24 hour cut off, the route and the Start has been moved up and along the coast with a Start from the gates of Caernarfon Castle at 20:00 on the Friday the 5th of July, following the Welsh coastal path along to the Llyn Penisula.

The 100M
36 hours cut off. 2 Sleep Zones. More Aid Stations which means that no crew is now required.as well as the solo competitor we are introducing ‘Pairs’ option, this brings the spirit of endurance to life and the adventure shared, so as well as training with someone you can now take on the event with them to and share the experiences together. The idea of ‘Pairs’ stems back from when I was a support crew for a team at the Welsh 3 Peaks sailing and running race some 25 years ago and seeing the pair of competitors supporting each other on when things got tough and shared celebrations.
As a ‘Pairs’ launch we have reduced the ‘Pairs’ option entry fee by £50 when 2 sign up and do the event together.
Race start 10:00am on Friday 5th of July from Bangor Pier. This stunning route takes you along the coast and past the dramatic bridges of Ynys Mon towards the Llyn Penisuala

The Dragon Cheesy Pasta Party in now on the Saturday at 6pm with a bar and live music throughout the day, which means that you get to enjoy and celebrate your achievements, especially with the Ultra camping village at the finish area,watch and welcome the other competitors and your freinds and family have a great location to follow the race as well as the food vans for nourishment.
Working with She.Races all aid stations will be stocked with Sanitary products,extra toilets where needed,trackers at all races and extra night sweepers,Baby feeding areas at aid stations,Race Ts have 2 fits (Women & Men),deferral when pregnant and generous Cut offs for both the 50M & 100M
